Jimmy Fallon as Jim Morrison

Sometimes subjects of Doors Examiner articles run in spurts, and in the last couple of days it’s been Doors parodies. Last night on the “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” show, Fallon knocked out a “Doors” cover of “Reading Rainbow.”

In a dead-on parody of The Doors on the Ed Sullivan show Jimmy Fallon and band looked exactly like The Doors; at first glance it looks like the Sullivan show footage was inserted into the sketch. Fallon and company are dressed like The Doors from Morrison’s leather pants and jacket and phrasing, to “Robby’s” turtleneck and checked pants, to “John’s” mod orange drum kit, and the sideburns on “Ray,” and the backdrop of doors on the set is the exact match for the 1967 Doors appearance on the Ed Sullivan show.

This isn’t Fallon’s first turn as being a rock star. On Late Night he’s previously covered Bob Dylan singing the “Charles in Charge” theme song, and Neil Young covering Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the USA”, and he was joined by David Crosby and Graham Nash on stage.

Fallon must be a Doors fan, as he previously sang “Roadhouse Blues” at the Four Seasons hotel in Beverly Hills last May. “The Reading Rainbow” was a PBS children’s TV show hosted by LeVar Burton to encourage children to read. Now, the kids will be into The Doors.
